#2013 Round up

Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team – 2013 Round Up

2013 proved another busy year for Falmouth CRT, with some challenging jobs and again some real highs and lows.

To date, we have attended 84 incidents totaling 1088 (team) hours, 2 lives saved and assisted 72 persons; this also included being involved in establishing a helicopter landing site for R193 who transferred a pregnant female who gave birth while arriving at the HLS.

This year the team has undertaken a total of 52 training sessions totaling an average of 1144 (team) hours. Ranging from voluntary two hour sessions on a Monday evening, to full day/weekend slots as well as being joined by our neighboring Coastguard teams from Porthoustock, Portscatho and Fire crews from Truro and St Austell.

Aside from ‘shouts’ and training, we also carry out voluntary local area patrols, public events, also voluntary and visits to local youth groups, such as scout groups and schools. This year we have totalled 272 hours in these tasks as well as reaching out to the wider community over our successful social media communications hitting our 1000 follower on twitter this year and 609 likes on our Facebook.

Total team hours this year are a staggering 2504 hours with other tasks such as checks/maintenance of equipment, routine duties and miscellaneous tasks not added on top of this, it’s been a busy old year!

This year also welcomed our newest recruits to our ranks Andrew and Sam who we’re sure will be a great assets to the team.

So, thanks to all our followers and have a happy new year. Here’s to a safe 2014!

#CGDuties

28/06/13 This afternoon a team member donned a dry suit and life jacket and undertook an observation role while a passenger ferry from Falmouth undertook an exercise in the Falmouth Bay.
The exercise started with an orange smoke and reports to the harbour boat Killigrew that there was a fire on board.
The instructions were given to the passengers on board (Cornish Pirates Rugby Team) to don lifejackets and prepare to evacuate. 26 rugby players made there way into the three life rafts and the remaining crew into nearby boats who were present for the the exercise. Once in the fire was extinguished and all passengers returned onboard. This was a successful exercise with all services and passengers working together.

These are an invaluable learning opportunity for all involved.
